MASSACHUSETTS COALITION TO PREVENT GUN VIOLENCE APPLAUDS GOVERNOR HEALEY’S SIGNING OF EMERGENCY PREAMBLE
BOSTON - The MA Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence applauds Governor Healey for signing the emergency preamble to An Act Modernizing Firearms Laws, ensuring that it goes into immediate effect. Every resident of Massachusetts has the right to live free from the threat and trauma of gun violence. Over the past two legislative sessions, Massachusetts residents from all walks of life came together to push for this critical gun violence prevention bill. It passed with overwhelming support in the legislature and was signed by the governor. This bill will save lives and create safer communities for all of us. The Coalition, along with our 120 member organizations, is extremely proud of Massachusetts for taking this bold step to keep our children and entire communities safer from gun violence. As evidenced by yesterday’s tragic shootings that closed a highway in Worcester and left two people dead, we must act now to implement this piece of legislation to prevent future trauma and death.
